A Reminder

as I progress in this life of mine
few things remain true
few things stand the test of time
I’m wondering when those things will shine
because we seem to worship things that die
and I don’t’ mean people because we all die too
some of y’all just need to change gears a bit
stop focusing on that new car or shoe
and it isn’t about who’s on top
because that thing called status dies with you

you can be rich and be poor
you can have an empty wallet
and still, have a door

and it isn’t about
what you’re wearing on the outside
I care about who’s on the inside
character is not a jacket or hat
character is how you stand up to the plate
and swing a bat
